Sculptra

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra™ is often dubbed in the popular press as ‘The Liquid Facelift’, and represents a unique option for treating the signs of facial ageing. Lines, wrinkles and sunken cheeks can all be improved and corrected with this unique procedure.

Progressive loss in facial volume can happen to most people, as the years go by. Facial muscles can weaken, fat can be lost from the cheek area and overlying skin can become less firm. This leads to the loss of natural, youthful curves in the face, and results in the ageing appearance of sunken cheeks.

Sculptra Birmingham

Surgeons previously used (and continue to use) people’s own fat – taken from other parts of their body and carefully injected into the face to help restore a smoother more youthful contour. Sculptra provides a non-invasive alternative that, in many situations, is the better option for people wanting to not only restore facial volume, but improve lines and wrinkles too.

How does Sculptra work?

Sculptra works in the lower layers of the skin in order to smooth and firm the treated areas of the face. It helps to stimulate the production of collagen, gradually creating underlying volume in the treated areas. Sculptra™ can be used to improve wrinkles and folds, depressed scars, eye rings, and to restore volume to the face to improve facial contour.

So what is it made of? Sculptra comprises of tiny pieces of a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid. Poly-L-Lactic acid (PLLA) is a safe, biocompatible (does not harm the body), biodegradable (able to be broken down by the body) material that has been widely used for over 25 years in medicine to make dissolvable stitches and other surgical products.

Whilst the results from Sculptra are not immediate, Sculptra provides a steady increase in skin thickness over the space of 6 weeks or more.

In a clinical study, most people experienced effects lasting for up to 2 years after the first treatment sessions.

Sculptra Reviews

Prior to my Sculptra treatments I felt that I looked tired and drawn. I now feel that my face looks brighter and plumper. The overall result is wonderful, and Sculptra™ has helped to diminish my fine lines and put the lost volume back into my face, whilst also giving it a lift. Dr Eccleston talked me through the treatment step by step and along with the rest of the team, helped me to feel relaxed and comfortable. Friends keep commenting how well I look! - Mrs J, Staffordshire
