Overview

Pigmentation refers to the colouring of the skin which is determined by pigment melanin. Skin cells produce melanin, however, when the skin is damaged through UV sun exposure, as well as other factors such as hormones and genetics, it can lead to hyperpigmentation.

Hyperpigmentation is when areas of the skin are darker than others. This can arise in the form of age spots, melasma, as well as birthmarks. These darker areas are not painful or itchy but can make people self conscious and lead to a search for treatment to reduce pigmentation.

FAQ

We’re here to help

You’ve found us! MediZen is the premier aesthetics clinic in the Midlands. A medically-led clinic located in Sutton Coldfield, we’re easily accessible to those based in Birmingham, the Midlands, and further afield.

There is no one size fits all with aesthetic treatments, everyone’s skin is different and no pigmentation is the same. It all depends on what you want to achieve and the type of treatment you are comfortable having. Our practitioners bespoke treatment to each individual to ensure you get the best possible result. The best way to find the right treatment for you is to book a consultation with a practitioner.

This is entirely dependent on your pigmentation, the length of time you’ve had it and the methods you choose to protect your skin prior and post pigmentation. Some pigmentation will naturally fade over time however not all pigmentation will disappear so treatment may be required.

Regular or prolonged sun exposure causes the body to produce more melanin in order to try and protect the skin. This can cause dark spots or patches on the skin. Using broad-spectrum sun protection all year is the best way to protect yourself from developing pigmentation, or to protect your skin from further damage.
