Laser and IPL for Pigmentation Overview

Fade unwanted brown age spots in a flash for a clearer, blemish-free skin complexion.

Everyone experiences pigmentation of the skin at some point in their lives, mostly in the form of freckles - or age spots, where the body has produced too much pigment. Pigmentation is the brown colour in the skin which is determined by the pigment called melanin. Skin cells produce melanin, however when they are damaged or become unhealthy the melanin production is affected and become darker in patches. These can become more noticeable as the years go by, usually because of constant exposure to the sun’s UV rays.

Pigment spots like these can really make someone look older than their years. That’s why we offer Laser or IPL Skin Pigmentation Removal, which is a very simple, proven way to quickly give you a clearer, more even looking skin complexion.
Lasers and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) systems have been used to safely treat excess pigment problems on the skin since the late 1990s. These systems all use light energy specifically targeted to treat a variety of different skin problems.

As one of the UK's leading medical aesthetic clinical trial and training centres, and one of only a handful of cosmetic clinics registered with the Government’s Care Quality Commission, you can be confident that our focus is your needs and that quality, training, safety and your comfort are paramount in everything that we offer.

As the Midlands Premier Laser Clinic we have treated hundreds of local men and women from Birmingham and helped them reduce pigment where they no longer need to use make-up to camoufage unwanted brown spots. Dr Xin Liu is one such client who came to us pigmentation reduction; she comments about her experience:

I have been for several sessions of IPL which really improved my facial skin situation. Some pigmentation points (at least two on the chin part) became much lighter. I hope they will become invisible during my next treatment. - Xin Liu, Birmingham

What is Laser and IPL Skin Pigmentation Removal?

Skin colour is determined by the amount and type of melanin found in a person’s skin. Sometimes though, too much melanin is produced in some areas, creating small patches and blotches that are either darker or lighter than normal.

Skin pigmentation concerns manifest themselves in many different ways. Some of the most common include age spots (also known as lentigos or ‘liver spots’), which are known under the condition of hyperpigmentation. They can appear in most places on the body, including the face, neck, hands, legs or feet, and are usually a brown colour. Often they develop because of sun damage, but there are other causes too, such as birth control pills, pregnancy, nursing, illnesses, medications and overall ageing.

At MediZen, we use laser technology to return abnormally pigmented skin back to its normal colour. You’ll start to notice a steady improvement in the clarity of your skin after the first couple of treatments.

You can also combine Laser and IPL Pigmentation Removal with Hydrafacial and other MediZen treatments, to rejuvenate your skin, and treat fine lines and wrinkles for even clearer, more youthful-looking skin.

Obagi Skin Peels

Obagi skin peels are a non-surgical resurfacing treatment designed to improve and enhance the skin. Also known as a face peel, a skin peel is a means of chemically exfoliating the skin by breaking down the intercellular glue that holds together dead skin cells and causing cell turnover which brings new skin to the surface at a faster rate. Chemical peels speed up the regeneration process removing the outermost layers of dead skin and triggering the repair cycle which promotes collagen production to begin the process of tissue (skin cell) regeneration. During this process, the dead skin peels off allowing smoother and less wrinkled regenerated skin to come to the surface.

Visia 2D and Vectra 3D Skin Analysis

Our 3 dimensional analysis allows us to look at facial contours and shape, to aid treatment planning. We use VISIA’s multi-spectral imaging to reveal signs of ageing and damage that can’t be seen by the human eye. We look at 6 different aspects on the surface and below the skin, including wrinkles, spots, pores, skin tone evenness, porphyrins (evidence of bacteria in your pores) and UV spots from overexposure to the sun. These combined systems are the ultimate way to record and review the results that we achieve in helping you to improve the way that you look.
