Migraine Treatment Overview

Migraine Treatment – Alleviate the suffering of chronic. Migraines.

Although many people only know of Botox® because of its multiple mentions in the popular press and magazines as a treatment for frown lines and wrinkles, it also has many other medical uses.

Having treated literally thousands of local men and women from Birmingham at MediZen since 1999 with Botox®, the majority of our clients come to us as they are concerned about the signs of ageing especially wrinkles and frown lines that start to deepen as they age.

However, clinical trials have discovered that skillful injection of Botox® into certain muscles on the forehead and back of the neck can reduce the occurrence and severity of people suffering frequent migraine attacks.

Dr. David Eccleston, Tatler’s “Man in the Midlands for Botox®” and an experienced Botox® clinical trial leader and trainer, was at the forefront of this new application of Botox® in his capacity as both a private and NHS Doctor.

Dr Eccleston has been using Botox® since 2002 for migraine treatment as well as for the treatment of excessive sweating and for frown lines and wrinkles – all established and licensed uses for this versatile drug. He has also trained thousands of clinicians in both the UK and abroad in the use of Botox® for these different indications. You will not find anyone else in the Midlands with more experience in the use of Botox®.

Jason Bell is a NHS Physiotherapist and Migraine sufferer from Birmingham who came to MediZen after unsuccessfully trying alternative prescription Migraine treatments. He comments:

I had suffered regular migraine for 2 decades. It became an almost daily issue for me about 3 years ago. Despite the attempts of my GP, a neurologist, a specialist migraine clinic, acupuncture, massage and prophylactic migraine medications my migraines persisted – affecting every aspect of my life. I would regularly take over the counter medications just to get me through the day. The Botox® for me was simply miraculous. It has without exaggeration changed my life. I am now 3 weeks after my injections and I am 95% improved. Without pain, I am able to contemplate and aspire to a quality of life I had previously never thought I would reach. Thank you Medizen, you have given me back my life! - Jason Bell

What is Migraine Treatment?

Facial expressions occur when your brain sends a signal to your muscle tissue. Migraine Treatment involves a tiny amount of Botox® being injected into certain muscles on the forehead and back of the neck.

Botox® for Migraines is a simple injectable treatment that we have been using since the late 1990’s and you can resume your normal activities immediately after the procedure. Many people have their treatments in their lunchtime, for example, and return to work straight afterward.

The results of Botox® for Migraine studies are consistent across multiple headache symptoms including nausea and vomiting, poor concentration, sweating and sensitivity to bright lights and noise, therefore, reducing the number of days you suffer from Migraines and actually improving your quality of life.

Please note that we only treat patients who have tried several different treatments from their GP or Neurologist, and still do not have adequate control of their symptoms.

After over a decade’s research and clinical trials, Botox® (botulinum toxin type A) has received a license from the UK drug licensing authorities (MHRA) for the treatment of a chronic migraine.

The license allows Botox® to be used specifically for the “prophylaxis of headaches in adults with a chronic migraine (headaches on at least 15 days per month of which at least 8 days are with a migraine)”.
