Sweat Treatment Overview

Reduce excessive sweating so that you can carry out your daily activities without embarrassing side effects.

Excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) can’t be treated by conventional sweat reducing methods such as deodorants and can cause embarrassment in everyday situations. The term Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating and affects approximately 2 % of the UK population.

Although excessive sweating is more prevalent in the underarm area, sufferers find it can occur in other parts of the body, such as the hands, or feet, or it can be more generalised affecting the whole of the body.

Regular methods to treat sweating such as showering regularly and using antiperspirants are ineffective when treating Hyperhidrosis and provide very little relief from symptoms. Avoiding spicy foods, avoiding stress, wearing loose fitting clothes and maintaining scrupulous hygiene can bring slight temporary relief, however, it is insufficient to actually help prevent the problem.

Dr David Eccleston, Tatler’s “Man in the Midlands for Botox®” and an experienced Botox® clinical trial leader and trainer, was at the forefront of this new application of Botox® in his capacity as both a private and NHS Doctor. Dr Eccleston has many years experience using Botox® for excessive sweating, migraine and for frown lines and wrinkles – all established and licensed uses for this versatile drug. He has also trained thousands of clinicians in both the UK and abroad in the use of Botox® for these different indications. You will not find anyone else in the Midlands with more experience in the use of Botox®!

Lucy came to MediZen to reduce excessive sweating as she was embarrassed about her condition and would find herself changing clothes multiple times per day and showering up to three times per day. After exhausting all other options such as over the counter treatments, Lucy came to us for hyperhidrosis using Botox® treatment. She comments:

I confidently and happily say that the embarrassing symptoms I experienced before my treatment have all disappeared. My life has completely changed thanks to my treatment with David at MediZen. I no longer have to worry about the types of tops I wear and feel confident and stress free in social situations. I can highly recommend MediZen and David Eccleston to anyone who suffers from excessive sweating and I’m sure you will be as delighted with your results as I am! - Lucy, Warwickshire

What is Sweat Treatment?

Botox® for Sweat reduction is a simple injectable treatment and many of our clients resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure. Many people have their treatments in their lunchtime, for example, and return to work straight afterwards.

Small amounts of Botox® are injected every centimetre or so in the are requiring treatment. It works by reducing the effect the nerves have on stimulating the sweat glands, resulting in the production of less sweat.

The procedure takes around half an hour for both armpits and will start to reduce sweating in two to ten days following treatment. Our clients find relief from excessive sweating can last up to around seven months, so maintenance treatment is necessary. For people looking for a more permanent long term solution to underarm sweating we now offer a newer treatment called MiraDry which can achieve an up to 82% long term reduction in excessive sweating after just two treatments. For more information please visit the MiraDry section of our website.

Although Botox® is only mostly used as a treatment for armpit sweating, it has also been used to treat discreet areas of sweating in other parts of the body, such as the hands and face.

This treatment for Hyperhidrosis is usually not available through your General Practitioner, and there is currently limited availability in NHS Hospitals. If you are interested in seeing if you are suitable for treatment, MediZen can provide a private option.

Sweat Treatment Side Effects

As a very fine needle is used, side effects are rare but can include tenderness and mild bruising at the site of injection. It has been proven to be quite safe to have Botulinum toxin injections for many years with some people receiving an injection for medical reasons for over 20 years.
